Best of the Latin American Season!

This month we are cupping more of our "late season" Latin American favorites! These coffees are some of the last Latin American coffees we will see this calendar year.

This month's availability list includes a creamy new Guatemalan coffee from Antigua with a delightful medium profile. For those of you who prefer a more mild cup, this month we have the last Mexican bean of the year, a truly mild and delightful coffee that is both Fair trade and Organic certified. For our deep dark coffee loving folks there's a new "Pulp Natural" from El Salvador.

A quick note about two coffees in short supply:

An extremely rare find, I have received 300lbs. of Zimbabwe coffee from Dandoni Estates. I expect this unusual coffee to sell out very quickly. Our Retro Mandheling "classico" from Sumatra has been very popular, There are less than 400 lbs. left. I bought every last bean I could get my hands on. I can honestly say this is the most extreme Sumatra I have ever roasted!

2lb. Sample Packs
This month our 2lb. sample packs will contain the following Coffee:

1/2lb. El Salvador "Pulp Natural" Cerro las Ranas
1/2lb. Guatemalan Antigua Santa Barbara

New Coffee Availability List:

Zimbabwe AA Dandoni Estates
Received 8/13/2007
Only 300 lbs. Total received!
A smoky African coffee with a light yet intense spicy herbal syrup finish. There are hints of Birch wood and Chaparral in the cup. We have received the only 300 lbs. available, and we may not be seeing any coffee from Zimbabwe again for a very long time. This coffee far exceeded my expectations.

Organic Washed Sidamo
Grower Certified Organic
Received 8/13/2007
Washed African coffees are creamy and uniform, having been sorted and graded using water baths, in a style called European Prep. We are roasting the finest Ethiopian coffee to be received this year, a full bodied African with hints of black walnut, pear, and the classic grapefruit citrus finish. As the season for receiving Ethiopian coffee has come to a close for the year, finding a coffee of this quality was an unexpected stroke of good luck.

Guatemalan Antigua Santa Barbara
Received 8/13/2007
Ask me for the most popular coffee each year and I'll be sure and recommend coffee from Guatemala. As the season progresses, we feature new growers when we taste beans that stand out as unusual and especially delightful. Guatemalan Antigua from Santa Barbara cups creamy and bright, with a "dry champagne" finish that tickles the center of your tongue and leaves your mouth clean after the swallow. While amazingly clean and subtle, this bean has all the complexity of flavors found only in the highest grown Central American coffees. When asked to recommend our most popular coffee, Guatemalan is always number one on my list.

Salvador "Pulp Natural" Cerro Las Ranas
Received 8/13/2007
This month we are roasting another "Pulp Natural" from El Salvador. I love the sweeter, more complex cup this unusual method of drying produces. This bean is earthy, as all Salvador coffee is, with a dark sweet tobacco aroma and flavor, almost like the Cavendish of Latin American coffee. "Pulp Natural" describes the drying process, where the sweet fruit pulp is left to dry with the bean until the final milling takes place. This produces a sweet fruity cup unlike any other Central American - and NOTHING like any Salvador coffee I've ever tasted. This is a bold, sweet, earthy and complex bean.

Mexican FT Organic Udepom
Grower Certified Organic, Fair Trade

Received 8/13/2007
UDEPOM is a Co-Op collective of over 600 family farmers in Motozintla Mexico. This coffee is grown at altitude in the high rainforest of Chiapas producing a wonderful light Mexican coffee with a bright, golden brown liqueur finish. There are subtle maple syrup and caramel notes. If you like a mild coffee with the classic medium body of a Latin American bean, you'll love this coffee!

Sumatra Retro Mandheling "Classico"
Received 7/23/2007
A new and exciting Mandheling with the famous dark blue green bean, this coffee has earned it's name - "Classico"! Enjoy a super traditional Sumatra, surprisingly strong, with an unbelievably thick aroma. This coffee is grown in sweet black volcanic earth, producing a strong syrupy cup that amazes me with its powerful, unmistakable body.
